Photography

Photography study programme aims to promote individual humanistic orientation, aesthetic perception, critical and creative thinking, social activity, freedom of communication and responsibility, develop the professional skills of a photography specialist based on traditional, alternative, and digital photography and innovations of professional activity in the various fields of application of the art of photography, and enhance the abilities necessary for organising photographer’s activities considering the changes in the environment and perceiving the importance of lifelong learning.

 

This study programme is promising and innovative. It integrates the activities of alternative and digital photography professionals in the fields of Reporting Photography; Commercial Photography; Photography of Architecture, Three-Dimensional Artworks, and Reproduction of works of art. In addition to digital photography, students can study and master the alternative processes of analogue photography, such as Cyanotype, Lith Print, and Gum Bichromate. They gain intercultural experience by attending lectures given by lecturers from abroad. Students can go for part–time study and/or practice to Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Sakartvelo, Turkey.

Studies based on practice. Students undertake internships in photo service companies, media, fashion or advertising agencies, galleries, cinematographic or videography studios, museums.

The following competencies will be developed:

 

  • knowlege of the philosophical, psychological aspects of the history of photography, cinema/video art, art, architecture, and visual expression that are necessary for aesthetic perception while seeking functional harmony in personal creative activities;

  • knowlege of how to apply alternative processes used in traditional photography;

  • knowlege of traditional and digital techniques of editing photographs;

  • knowlege to apply different techniques of printing photographs;

  • perceiving the processes of video production (preproduction, production and postproduction) and to be able to manage them;

  • being able to photograph a reportage following the mass media laws and ethics/ Able to photograph fashion choosing an appropriate personal behaviour strategy/ Able to photograph architecture, three-dimensional art objects and reproduce two-dimensional works of art;

  • being able to analyse and determine the need of photography in the field of activity;

  • being able to reasonably design a creative strategy in the chosen field of professional performance;

  • being able to analyse, assess, interpret style, aesthetics, creative objects, and has an individual artistic approach;

  • being able choose and manage traditional and digital photography technique considering the situation and demand;

  • perceiving management principles, system, legal regulations on work environment, able to expand personal creative performance;

  • being able to communicate in a correct foreign and Lithuanian language expressing personal ideas in written and orally and visualise the outcomes of personal performance by compiling a Portfolio;

  • being able to work independently and in a team dealing with the issues of professional activities and fostering lifelong learning values.

Graduates are be able to work individually as freelance photographers; set up a company and create jobs in their professional field of activity; work in a team in photo service companies, media, fashion or advertising agencies, galleries, cinematographic or videography studios, museums; set up a photography business; develop and expand creative and project activities.


Access to further study. The graduates are entitled to a credit transfer system for entering level one university study programmes, they can choose Master programmes. The continuation of studies is possible in the higher education institutions in Lithuania or in other countries.
