International recognition: Arts Academy talents shine at Estonian Fashion Festival

An international stage, prestigious awards, and invaluable partnerships – this best describes the Estonian Fashion Festival 2026, held on 11–12 June in Tartu, where Lithuania’s creative presence was felt strongly. At one of the region’s most significant fashion events, lecturers and graduates from the Arts Academy’s Fashion Design programme once again proved the high standard of the Academy’s studies and the competitiveness of our creators on the international stage.

International recognition for young talent

Fashion Design lecturer Milda Grikšaitė and this year’s graduate Rūta Kusaitė presented their collections at the ‘Antoniuse moeetendus’ fashion show. Their work garnered significant attention from organisers and fashion professionals alike, while for young creator Rūta Kusaitė, the festival served as a springboard into the international market.

The graduate’s talent was recognised and rewarded by festival sponsors:

  • A special recognition award from Pandora A/S.
  • The KIU Kangatruki Stuudio prize – a unique opportunity to have her original patterns printed onto fabric. This represents a direct step from graduation towards the real-world development of her own brand.

Strengthening ties and new experiences

While some conquered the runway, others were busy forging future partnerships. Fashion Design lecturer Stella Justina Kasperavičienė analysed the behind-the-scenes aspects of fashion event management, comparing Estonian practices with the Lithuanian context.

The strategic visit continued at the partner institution, Pallas University of Applied Sciences. Here, the Arts Academy representatives not only viewed the final degree project exhibition and observed the defences of Textile and Fashion students but also met with Estonian colleagues. During these discussions, guidelines for future collaboration were outlined, opening even broader opportunities for international exchanges and joint projects for our students.

Participation in festivals of this calibre proves that studies here are not just about theory. They provide real opportunities to present one’s work to an international audience, establish contacts with global brands, and launch a design career with strong institutional support.
