Strategy and partnership: TAMK delegation at Kauno kolegija
On 12–13 February, a delegation from Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) visited Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution for a high-level meeting dedicated to strategic dialogue and the further strengthening of cooperation, both within the framework of the bilateral partnership and in the context of the UNINOVIS alliance.
The delegation was led by TAMK President Dr Mika Hannula and included Tiina Koskiranta, Head of Study Development and UNINOVIS Activity Coordinator. During the visit, Kauno kolegija presented its 2026–2030 strategy, outlining the institution’s key development priorities, strategic objectives, and the principal challenges ahead.
Dr Mika Hannula, in turn, introduced TAMK’s development outlook and the key priorities underpinning the implementation of its 2025–2028 Strategy. Particular emphasis was placed on applied research and innovation, including concrete plans to further expand these activities. The meeting also featured a presentation of Kauno kolegija’s applied research and artistic activities, its research groups, and prospective areas for enhanced joint initiatives with TAMK. Special attention was given to the Excellence Hubs established within UNINOVIS, highlighting their strategic importance in advancing international research collaboration and strengthening the research, development and innovation (RDI) ecosystem.
Dr Andrius Brusokas, Director of Kauno kolegija, emphasised: ‘Addressing international cooperation opportunities at the leadership level is essential. It enables us to gain a clear understanding of our respective strategic ambitions, to identify not only our strengths but also to openly discuss the challenges each institution faces. Recognising shared priorities allows us to build meaningful partnerships, exchange best practices, and achieve sustainable growth together.’

During the visit, discussions also focused on practical steps to advance cooperation and to launch joint initiatives in the areas of studies, applied research, and project-based activities, with the aim of generating tangible social impact.
The delegation toured the laboratories and research infrastructure dedicated to applied research at Kauno kolegija. This provided an opportunity not only to showcase existing capacities, but also to identify areas where the complementary competences of both institutions could be effectively aligned.
In summarising the visit, the leadership of both institutions emphasised the importance of strengthening connections between academic staff and researchers, as well as fostering purposeful mobility development.
Jolanta Valiaugienė, Coordinator of International Partnership Development, noted: ‘Sustainable partnership begins with open dialogue at multiple levels and a shared ambition to create long-term impact on studies, research, and society. Kauno kolegija and Tampere University of Applied Sciences have a long-standing history of cooperation, which was further reinforced in 2023 with the signing of a strategic partnership agreement. In collaboration with TAMK, Kauno Kolegija is developing the entrepreneurship and creativity centre ‘ideaPoint’, implementing international study and research projects, and organising study visits for both students and academic staff. Each meeting with our partners allows us to deepen mutual understanding and uncover new areas for collaboration. I am confident that the ideas generated during this meeting will materialise into new joint projects.’
We extend our sincere thanks to Dr Mika Hannula and Tiina Koskiranta for their visit, the meaningful discussions, and the valuable insights shared. We believe this meeting marks another important step forward and will serve as a strong foundation for future joint projects and initiatives.
